UPSC INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPTS 6/3/19

1. When did you start preparing for cse ? – 4
th year of college then coaching etc.

2. Do u like mechanical engineering ? – yes surely sir. I told him about how I worked on 2 imp.
Projects.

3. India’s 5 major social issues? – caste conflicts- communal riots – poverty- gender gap –
unemployment.

4. Traveling is your hobby, where all have u travelled ?
5. What did u like most in A&N islands ? some more factual questions on it about cellular jail, islands etc. – didn’t know any factual questions.
6. How will you use mechanical engineering in administration? - I’ll know it only after I get into
the service but based on my limited knowledge I can use some concepts like cpm, pert, ved
etc. also I told how I needed to optimize resources, team management, marketing etc during
my project- same way I can increase efficiency in administration also.

7. How can you use CPM, PERT ? explain- I explained with specific details.
M1 ( very long discussion) – best interaction. Very motivating person.


1. What is Ranthambore famous for ? – tiger, fort, temples.


2. Steps taken for tiger conservation ? both india and global level. – I spoke a lot here.


3. Why animal- human conflicts ? told 2-3 reasons. Used case study of some villages in Rajasthan.


4. You are DM of tiger populated district. How will you handle relocation of villages and tigers?
I told my 3 pronged strategy – 1. Village relocation, tiger relocation and handling issues with
it 2. Social accountability of officers handling it. 3. Grievance redressal system – online/offline.


5. Difference between national park and wildlife sanctuaries? Told 2 – human activities allowance AND species diversity.


6. What do you understand by fossil fuels ? Why are we heavily dependent on it ? – we are developing, increasing middle class, slow speed in achieving renewables target.


7. Fossil fuels vs solar energy – I obviously supported solar but told that for next 10-15 years fossil will still play a major role.


8. Steps in solar field by india and at global level also ? told it.


9. You are petroleum secretary – how will you reduce or optimize the usage of fossil fuels? – I
told that 1. Carve out sectors where renewables can replace fossils in a fast manner. 2.
Support fossils only in those areas where pollution is still very low while demand for energy
is necessity and renewables need proper infra which will take time. 3. I told support evehicles while reducing imports etc. ( could have answered it better but let it go :P )


10. Don’t you think we are progressing very slowly in solar sector ?why? I told rooftop is culprit and told of schemes – SRISHTI-solar mitra- smart metering etc,

1. Why suicides in kota ? – 1. academic + parental + peer pressure 2 coaching industry admit all students irrespective of their scores in entrance which increases hope of child/parents but in reality he/she may not be made for iit /neet. He may have some other talent which gets suppressed. 3. Narrow vision of students as they see failing in exams as end of the world.

2. You are DM of kota. Tell me steps you will take to reduce suicides ? 1. Counselling centres 2. Dialogue with coaching industry to filter out only those students who are really interested and can really do well. 3. Circulars to all students to motivate them.
3. What are sand dunes ? where is it found in Rajasthan ?- told.

4. What is significance of pushkar? 1. Lord brahma 2. Camel fair.
5. What is diversity? Explain it as a sociologist ? I told it as differences across different
dimensions like culture, instituions, political and economical structure.

6. Why civil services ?
7. Which was the latest district that came up in rajasthan ? – did not know.

1. Did u read today’s newspaper ? what are major headlines?

2. Trade conflicts between india and usa (GSP based) ?
3. Trade war and all- discussion was normal.
4. How to boom exports? What steps have been taken by us? – 1 SEZ 2. MEIS-SEIS 3Msme boost
5. India’s policies for MSME and its future?- told schemes
6. Do u read books ? I said yes sir but rarely I do so.
7. What was your job as reading room secretary ? infrastructure of room, addressing demands of people(w.r.t books).
M4 ( only person making scaring faces :p )


1. What were the last 2 social issues you told to chairman ?


2. How to solve unemployment ?and what is underemployment ? I told that india is a developing country so social infrastructure hold immense potential for creating jobs 2. Msme sector boost is needed 3. Proper skills has to be given to people according to market needs (could have answered it better but chill hai)


3. Why well educated engineers like you are not getting jobs ? what do you think is going
wrong in our top universities? 1. Mismatch between industry needs and skills we get 2. Not
enough core jobs in important branches like civil 3. University curriculum is more theoretical
and less focused on practical aspects of engineering thus interest loses and most people
shift from engineering.


4. What do you mean by gender gap issue ? can it be solved ? – explained.


5. What new did you do to get patent application for your project ?- explained.


6. How do we file a patent ? and which office did you go to file it ? – SIIC(iit kanpur) and told the process.He was asking more but chairman sir intervened and told that it is enough. He thanked me.
Chairman thanked me and wished me ‘all the very best’. I also said thankyou and left.


Total time ~32-33 mins. Very cordial and supportive board. Good experience.
